On April 28, 1977, Capt. William Baker (USAF Exchange Officer) and FLTLT David Clarkson were carrying out a training exercise in F-111C, A8-136 of 6 SQN RAAF, when their aircraft suffered a severe internal explosion leading to a complete loss of control. They ejected safely, suffering minor injuries as a result of the crew module ground impact forces. The aircraft crashed approximately 22kms north of Armidale, NSW.
